NOT THE SAME

 

Some say I changed.

I might have.

But that's what happens when you get hurt;

When you get disappointed

By the very same people

You thought you could trust

And when they don't understand

How an apology isn't enough anymore,

How their excuses won't change the fact

I got tired

Of feeling this void inside me

Which I tried to fill with their empty words more often than not;

Of being constantly underestimated

And misunderstood by those who are indifferent

To the patched,

Overlooked wounds I always carry with me.

So maybe it was for the best, 

And nip it in the bud was all I needed

This whole time.

Because you cannot expect a flower to bloom in an empty dessert.
